Homeville kicks off PBIS

Homeville Elementary School recently launched its PBIS program, Homeville Heroes, for the upcoming year.

While the program itself has been in use for a couple of years, Homeville has a few new twists to keep this year’s program both fun and engaging.

This year’s program focuses on the “Three Rs” — Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to learn. Students showing any of those at school or on the bus can receive a Homeville Hero ticket. Students then bring the ticket to the office and put it in a box for a weekly drawing. They also receive a sticker for their submission.

Each Friday, two names are drawn from each grade. Those selected can choose from an assortment of prizes including pencils, desk pets, fidget toys, and more. Additionally, each teacher has a chart outside of their classroom doors to track the number of Homeville Heroes each student has. The top boy and girl from each class will get a special prize (a decorated locker)at the end of the period.

There’s also a Homeville Heroes Bingo game taking place in the cafeteria. Students displaying positive behavior specifically in the cafeteria can pick a number from 1-100 on the cafeteria bingo board, and when a student makes a bingo, the student gets a special prize from principal Dr. Jah-Chant Robinson.

Students will also see Dr. Robinson in their classrooms and roaming the school this fall. Homeville’s new principal is visiting classrooms, helping in the cafeteria, and more in order to get to know the staff and students at her new school, and to reward good behavior when she sees it.
