Attendance and Family Liaison

Job Overview:

The Attendance and Family Liaison is responsible for monitoring and improving student attendance rates. The role involves identifying and addressing issues related to chronic absenteeism, communicating with students and families, and ensuring compliance with district and state attendance policies. The Attendance Officer plays a crucial role in promoting a positive school climate and supporting student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Attendance Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records for all students.
    • Monitor daily attendance and identify patterns of absenteeism and tardiness.
    • Generate attendance reports for administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure compliance with state and district attendance regulations.
  2. Intervention and Support:
    • Identify students with chronic absenteeism and develop intervention plans.
    • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students with attendance issues.
    • Conduct home visits and meetings with families to address attendance concerns.
    • Connect families with community resources and support services as needed.
  3. Communication:
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student attendance.
    • Provide clear information about attendance policies and the importance of regular attendance.
    • Work with school staff to develop strategies for improving attendance and reducing absenteeism.
  4. Policy Implementation:
    • Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide attendance policies and initiatives.
    • Ensure that attendance policies are communicated and understood by students, staff, and families.
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with attendance policies and procedures.
  5. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain detailed and confidential records of attendance-related interventions and communications.
    • Prepare and submit required documentation for state reporting and compliance audits.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about best practices and legal requirements related to school attendance.
    • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
    • Share knowledge and strategies with colleagues to improve attendance across the school.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school setting, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.
    • Knowledge of attendance laws and regulations.
    • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license for conducting home visits.
    • Background check and clearance to work with students.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Public school setting, including office work, classroom visits, and home visits.
  • Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of materials and supplies.
  • Hours: Full-time position; may require occasional evening hours for home visits and/or meetings .
  • Salary:  $50,000 with single benefits *this is a grant paid position for one year

Family Assistance Liaison

Job Title: Family Assistance Liaison

Department: Social Services

Location: West Mifflin Area School District

Reports To: Director of Pupil Services

Job Summary:

The Family Assistance Liaison serves as a primary point of contact between families in need and various social services. This role is responsible for providing support, guidance, and resources to families to help them navigate complex systems, access essential services, and improve their overall well-being. The liaison works closely with social workers, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure that families receive comprehensive and coordinated assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Client Support:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for families seeking assistance.
    • Conduct initial assessments to understand family needs and develop tailored action plans.
    • Provide emotional support and practical advice to families in crisis.
  2. Resource Coordination:
    • Connect families with appropriate community resources, including housing, healthcare, financial aid, education, and employment services.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available services and resources within the community.
    • Facilitate referrals and ensure follow-through on service provision.
  3. Advocacy:
    • Advocate on behalf of families to secure necessary services and support.
    • Assist families in navigating bureaucratic processes and overcoming barriers to service access.
    • Empower families by providing information on their rights and available options.
  4. Collaboration and Networking:
    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
    • Participate in community meetings, forums, and events to represent the interests of families.
    • Collaborate with social workers, counselors, and other professionals to provide holistic support.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all client interactions and services provided.
    • Prepare regular reports on service delivery, client outcomes, and program effectiveness.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  6. Training and Development:
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
    • Stay informed about best practices in family assistance and social services.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field (required). 
  • Experience: Preferred minimum of 2 years of experience, but not necessary, in social services, case management, or a related field.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
    • Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
    • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude.

Working Conditions:

  • Part-Time position with varying hours. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Work may involve visiting families’ homes, community centers, and other locations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • $20/hour *after 60 days hourly rate is $25/hour  (This is a grant paid position for one year)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform tasks that may require physical exertion, such as lifting and carrying materials (up to 25 lbs).
  • Ability to travel locally as needed.

School Psychologist
School Psychologist
 
West Mifflin Area School District is seeking a full-time School Psychologist. 
Certification:
Applicants must have a valid Pennsylvania certificate as a School Psychologist for grades PK-12
 
Responsibilities include:
Conduct psychological assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations
Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments
Create Positive Behavioral Support Plans 
Write psychological and/or comprehensive evaluation reports according to school policy and state regulations 
Participate in Individualized Educational Program meetings 
Assist with the identification and placement of students
Coordinate with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs 
Work with the MTSS Coordinator 
Participate in PBIS and SAP
Work closely with school counselors and special education team members
Be a resource to assist staff with students’ mental health, social/emotional learning, and strategies that increase learning and achievement.
Participate as the LEA for outside placements

medical rooms, storage rooms, elevators, classrooms, gymnasiums, and outside walkways and areas.
3. Possess the ability to operate floor machines, automated cleaning equipment and utilize Arsenal Dilution Systems
4. Be able to lift and/or move items that weigh a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
without assistance.

CLASS 1 - MIDDLE SCHOOL GENERAL WORKER
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour
Hours: Monday-Friday 7 AM - 10 AM (during the school year)
Reports To: Director of Food and Nutrition

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Possess an understanding of and patience with students.
  2. Possess basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills.
  3. Possess communication skills enabling them to communicate with a wide range of individuals from students to faculty, staff and the building principal.
  4. Possess the ability to both build and work as part of a team.
  5. Possess a current Food Safety Certification through the Allegheny County Health Department.
  6. Possess the ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 lbs., be subjected to heat from ovens and dish room, pull push and stand for long periods of time.
