Homeville Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday
Homeville 3rd graders read biographies, wrote speeches, mapped Dr. King's geographical quest acros the United States and created a peace quilt. the quilt is on display in the school lobby. The children ended the week with a "peace cake" celebration. They brought in pairs of shoes to emulate walking in Dr. King's footsteps to promote peace and equality.
Aquademics Homeville 5th graders are participating in Aquademics, an aquarium education program developed by Tetra, the global leader in aquatics, and supported by PETCO. The program combines learning with fun by incorporating lessons in science, reading, math and language arts. Each classroom teacher received a free 10 gallon aquarium, fish and the supplies needed for their students to care for the fish from PETCO at the Waterfront. They chose to display the aquariums in the cafeteria so that all Homeville students can take part in the fun.
Morning Intramurals
Thanks to a great idea from Homeville teachers Mr. Yeschenko and Mr. Walsh, Homeville students enjoy an intramural exercise program every morning before school. Each day, 2 classes come to the gym on a rotating basis to enjoy supervised, organized games. The program has gone a long way to increase attendance and decrease tardies, all while having fun and exercising! |
