West Mifflin Area High School Mission Statement

"The Mission of West Mifflin Area High School - in partnership with families and community - is to establish a challenging and safe learning environment, where all students will attain the quality education and life experiences to become responsible life-long learners and contributing members of an ever-changing global society."

The West Mifflin Area High School belongs to the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and has been accredited by the Middle Atlantic States since 1965.

Renovations to the campus began in March of 1998 and were completed in August 2001. The District began envisioning a school of the future rich with technology to allow West Mifflin Area students to compete in an ever-changing world. Board members, administrators and staff mapped out a blueprint that would add more than 112,765 square feet to an existing 142,660 square feet.

Students are experiencing the integration of technology through the support of the board of school directors and the state funded Classrooms for the Future. This new technology, providing for laptop computers, white boards, web cameras and professional development for their teachers, is preparing them for global success.

Through the state funded grant program Project 720, named after the number of days students attend school from ninth through twelfth grades, students are guided through curriculum and career mentorship for success after graduation. A component of Project 720 is the Freshman Academy. Freshman students will be housed in an exclusive area of the high school. Classes on career choices, school spirit and high school expectations will be reinforced to direct our freshman class through a positive experience of high school academic success. As a result of this high school reform, we have also increased building safety and security with the hiring of additional administrators, academic coaches and the implementation of security equipment and personnel.

When students enter the doors of the West Mifflin Area High School, they are beginning to prepare for their future. With a mix of academics, athletics, and the arts, our students can immerse themselves in a wide range of activities including sports teams, honors classes, bands, orchestras, clubs, organizations, and much more. The high school will provide them with a blueprint for learning and success.
