Each year, West Mifflin Area School District employees participate in a United Way campaign, raising money for those in need throughout Allegheny County, as well as in our own neighborhoods. Last year, the campaign raised over $6,000, giving the District the honor of being awarded one of 13 of the most outstanding campaigns in the region. This year, the United Way has joined the NFL to promote health and wellness in schools. Homeville Elementary will be celebrating “Back to Football Friday” on Friday, September 10, 2010. “Back to Football Friday” is a national celebration on NFL team pride, promoting health, wellness and physical activity. The students at Homeville Elementary will celebrate by getting active, participate in contests, engage in football themed lessons across the curriculum, creative writing and much more. Students and staff will be competing with others to receive a $10,000 health and wellness grant, courtesy of the NFL.
