The WMASD’s Commitment to an AED Heart Safe Program Continues The West Mifflin Area School District is proud of our commitment to provide public access to defibrillation!

What is an AED? The automated external defibrillator (AED) is a computerized medical device. An AED can check a person’s heart rhythm. It can recognize a rhythm that requires a shock. And it can advise the rescuer when a shock is needed. The AED uses voice prompts, lights and text messages to tell the rescuer the steps to take. AEDs are very accurate and easy to use. With a short training session, anyone can learn to operate an AED safely. There are many different brands of AEDs, but the same basic steps apply to all of them.

What's public access to defibrillation? Public access to defibrillation (PAD) means making AEDs available in public and/or private places where large numbers of people gather or people who are at high risk for heart attacks live. By placing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in key locations where people work and play, you can give anyone struck down by a sudden cardiac arrest another chance at life. The West Mifflin Area School District has AEDs placed in the following key public locations:

• West Mifflin Area Administration Building - 3rd Floor of the West Mifflin Municipal Building
• West Mifflin Area High School
• Titan Stadium Guard Station/Ticket Booth
• Audtiorium Lobby
• Gymnasium Lobby
• School Offfice Lobby
• Swimming Pool Deck
• West Mifflin Area Middle School - Office Hallway
• Clara Barton Elementary - Lobby/Entrance
• New Emerson Elementary - Lobby/Entrance
• New England Elementary - Lobby/Entrance
• Homeville Elementary - Gymnasium Hallway
