The Technology Department is an integral part of the day to day functionality of the West Mifflin Area School District. The department services and supports all District departments in planning, implementing and supporting various uses of technology. In order to operate in the most cost effective manner, the Technology Department consistently analyzes district processes and procedures to ensure that district operations efficently streamlined.
Recently Completed Technology Department Projects
- Students Grades 2-12 have been assigned unique computer accounts and server storage space
- Installed wireless network system, 374 laptops and 12 classrooms equipped with Projectors and Electronic Whiteboards as part of the Classrooms for the Future Grant
- Provide dedicated teacher web sites for teachers to post information
- Connected to the AIU’s regional wide area network (which provides high speed internet access)
- Implementation of a high speed/emergency caller system for parents and staff
- Implementation of a District Wide VOIP Phone System
- Implemented Wireless Network Coverage in ALL District Schools
- Implementation of additional 21st century classrooms that include Interactive White Boards, Projectors, etc. (High School Core Classrooms, 4th & 5th Grade Classrooms)
- Implemented Automated Attendace Calling for Absent Students on a daily basis
- Re-wrote the District’s 3 year Technology Plan (see link below)
- Re-wrote the District’s Acceptable Usage of the Internet Policy (www.wmasd.org/documents.cfm)
- Implemented an I.E.P. Management System
- Provided initial setup and ongoing support for the District's new Cyber Academy Program
Future Goals of the Technology Department
- Automted System Management Implementation
- Complete Laptop Distribution to all District Teaching Staff
- Implement a Technology Integration Coordinator position
- Implement one or more Elementary Technology Teacher positions
- Implementation of additional 21st century classrooms to include Interactive White Boards, Projectors, etc. (High School & 3rd Grade)
- Reconfiguration of District's Network Infrastructure Settings and Policies
- Review and Consolidation of District's Database and Software Systems
